SUBSTANCE USE SERVICES
GROUP COUNSELING
Participate in group therapy with themes like relapse prevention, anger management,
mindfulness, and other topics determined by the needs of the people currently served.
INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT (IOP)
Counseling is provided in group treatment formats for a half a day program at least three
times a week. The IOP will focus on Behavioral Health or Substance Use needs depending
on which group may be the most helpful right now. Please call to determine eligibility.
RECOVERY COACH
Meet with your assigned Coach to receive one-on-one peer support. Coaches will
provide guidance and help you overcome the obstacles making progress difficult.

Individual Counseling
Address the underlying causes of addiction and current stress with a trusted counselor
Family Counseling
Recovery success will result in change among family systems. Including them
in treatment may facilitate and support progress made in other venues.

Medication-Assisted Treament
As part of a holistic treatment plan, Medication-Assisted Treatment is a tool to support recovery.
Several medication options are available and can be discussed with your provider.
SOAP
The Structured Outpatient Addiction Program (SOAP) is available to people who have recently entered recovery or who are in
need of additional support to maintain their recovery. Counseling is provided in group treatment formats for half a day.
Recovery Coach

Recovery Support Navigator
Receive one on one case management support from a Recovery Support Navigator
specializing in knowledge of the Substance Use Treatment System.

Psychoeducation groups provided to fulfill requirements for court-referred individuals following a DUI Conviction

Internship Opportunities
Massachusetts
Northeast Family Services works diligently to create learning opportunities for all interns, and support & train interns to ensure that each intern is receiving a well-rounded experience. If you are a second-year master’s level student, you qualify for an internship as an In-Home Clinical intern doing In Home Therapy. Furthermore, there may be opportunity to have outpatient clients; this is discussed with your internship supervisor. If you are looking for a first-year master’s level internship, you qualify for an internship as a Therapeutic Training and Support and/or Therapeutic Mentor.
The In-Home Therapy (IHT) Program is designed to provide behavioral health services to families and children in order to improve functioning and prevent the need for other more restrictive levels of care. The In-Home Therapy team is composed of a master's level In-Home Therapist and a Therapeutic Training a Support paraprofessional that work with a family or a subsect of a family with the identified youth. In-Home Therapy is a strength-based service to help improve the family and youth’s functioning in the home and community.
As an In-Home Therapy Clinical Intern, some items you will learn/experience are:

Compose, implement, and update treatment plans

Implement interventions in therapeutic sessions, such as mindfulness, CBT techniques, parenting strategies, coping skills use, emotion regulation and crisis intervention

Compose and update comprehensive assessments

Safety plan with youth and families

Collaborate with collaterals, such as school personnel, outpatient therapist, lawyers, probation officers, Intensive Care Coordinators, medication prescribers, Emergency Services personnel

Complete and update Child Adolescents and Needs Strengths (CANS) Tool
As a Therapeutic Training & Support Intern, some items you will learn/experience are:

Implement treatment plans and interventions in therapeutic sessions, such as practice coping skills & emotion regulation with youth, connect family/youth to community activities & resources and support caregivers with following through on parenting strategies.

Collaborate with the In-Home Therapy Clinician regarding sessions and treatment

Collaborate with collaterals, such as school personnel, outpatient therapist, lawyers, probation officers, Intensive Care Coordinators, medication prescribers, Emergency Services personnel
The Therapeutic Mentoring Program provides support to children at risk for other more restrictive levels of care by supporting the treatment plan of In-Home Therapy, Intensive Care Coordination, or Outpatient Therapy. The therapeutic mentor brings the youth out in the community for up to 3 hours per week to work on different skills, such as social skills, emotion regulation and transition to adulthood skills.
As a Therapeutic Mentor Intern, some items you will learn/experience are:

Provide guidance and support to youth in the community around skills such as social skills, emotion regulation and transition to adulthood skills

Create Therapeutic Mentor lesson plans from goals that were created by the clinician working with the youth

Collaborate with collaterals, such as school personnel, outpatient therapist, lawyers, probation officers, Intensive Care Coordinators, medication prescribers, Emergency Services personnel
Intern Expectations:

Complete notes weekly
-
Complete and update clinical documentation per Northeast Family Services and program specifications

Attend 1 hour of individual supervision weekly

Attend 1 hour of group supervision weekly
-
Have a reliable car
-
Ability to go into a family’s home independently

Attend staff meetings

Attend trainings (if outside of group supervision)
What To Expect After Completing the Application:
The information you input into the application will be reviewed by the Program Director of Internship and Training, who will reach out via email to schedule an interview via zoom. During this interview, the PD of Internship and Training will explain the role and expectations in more depth and gather what you are looking for in an internship.
